What is Cord Blood?Umbilical cord blood is the blood collected from the umbilical cord immediately following the birth of a child. This blood provided nourishment for the baby during pregnancy, but once the baby is delivered, umbilical cord blood is no longer necessary.

Umbilical cord blood is rich in multipotent hematopoietic "stem cells" (or blood stem cells). My thoughts…
To be honest, I wish we had the money (it can be very expensive) to do this with our girls when they were born. You just never know what could happen…and it would be nice knowing that we had their cord blood in storage in case they ever had a type of cancer, heart disease, etc. There are so many things that research can someday use cord blood for and maybe someday you or your family could need this life saving blood.
